THE ALCHEMIST

My reimagining of Ben Johnsons play, 'The Alchemist', was inspired by whimsical surrealism. Taking inspiration from vintage circuses, maximalist interior decor, and carnival floats, I created a psychedelic world designed for immersive theatre.

When I first read ‘The Alchemist’ it reminded me of a circus; the disguises, use of costume and trickery of it all was reminiscent of a seedy old circus to me.I like the idea of Lovewit being an eccentric, wealthy figure. The three conmen squatting in his maximalist house and creating makeshift disguises from his treasure trove of a house.
